Rene Ciriacruz was chair of the National Executive Committee of the Union of Democratic Filipinos (KDP), a nationwide revolutionary mass organization of Filipino-American socialists in the U.S. during the 1970s-80s. He also led the KDP’s Philippine solidarity work. He is currently the National Vice-Chair of the Akbayan Party, the democratic socialist electoral party in the Philippines. Rene has written extensively on united and popular front building challenges faced by the Philippine Left and contributed clarity in theoretical exchanges within the Philippine Left after the fall of the Marcos dictatorship on the need for the Left to shift to the electoral and parliamentary struggle.
