Interview: Dawn Phillips on the Evictions Crisis

The elections aren’t the only looming crisis in early November: another massive round of evictions are expected. 30-40 million people are at risk of eviction this year due to loss of income. Dawn Phillips of the Right To the City Alliance joins host Jayanni Webster to talk about their innovative housing defense strategies to cancel rent and end the evictions crisis.

Dawn Phillips

Dawn Phillips is Executive Director of the Right to the City Alliance. Dawn has been a grassroots organizer engaged in a range of social, economic, racial and environmental justice organizations and fights in the Bay Area and nationally for over 20 years.  Prior to joining RTTC, Dawn was the Program Director at Causa Justa::Just Cause (CJJC) a grassroots membership organization focused on community development, housing, and immigrant justice issues in the California Bay Area; and a founding member of the Right To The City Alliance.

Jayanni Webster

Jayanni is a national organizer for Right To the City Alliance. Previously, she worked as a union organizer for United Campus Workers – CWA Local 3865 and prior to that as a communications and community organizer for the Fight for $15 Campaign. She has 10+ years of experience in student, labor and community activism ranging from anti-death penalty efforts to reproductive justice and anti-privatization organizing. Jayanni is a committed social movement leftist, Black feminist, and internationalist.
