Eric Verhoogen is an economist at Columbia University, studying barriers to upgrading and growth in developing countries. A former high-school teacher and labor organizer, he was editorial coordinator of the Common-Sense Economics study-group curriculum of the UMass Amherst-based Center for Popular Economics.
