Si Kahn

Si Kahn began his organizing career in 1965, working with the Student Nonviolent Coordinating Committee (SNCC) in Forrest City, Arkansas. He’s now in his 59th year as a professional civil rights, union and community organizer, musician, and author.  He has had successful careers as a composer, lyricist, and book writer for musical theater, and as an internationally recognized songwriter, recording and performing artist.  His most recent book is Creative Community Organizing: A Guide for Rabble-Rousers, Activists, & Quiet Lovers of Justice (Berrett-Koehler, 2010).  Si’s musical body of work include 24 CDs of his original songs, six of them recorded by younger artists; a CD of his songs for children, Good Times and Bedtimes; a collection of traditional labor and civil rights songs recorded with Pete Seeger and Jane Sapp; and the songs and/or scripts for seven musicals.  His musical Mother Jones in Heaven is currently on tour nationally.
